Police warn of doorstep TV licence fraudsters

THE police have warned the public to be on the alert for thieves posing as TV Licence officials.

It follows an incident on Friday in Co Down when the PSNI were alerted to the scam.

“A male called at a house in the Ballyholme area this afternoon,” said PSNI Bangor.

“He stated if the occupant paid a £50 instant fine for no TV licence then they would not have to go to court and face a £1000 fine.

” Unfortunately, the home owner handed over the money and then discovered this was a fraud.

“Please be vigilant and if you have any information to assist identify the male then please call police on 0845 600 8000.”
