NEW BUS LANE FOR BELFAST COMES INTO OPERATION

New bus lane starts as part of ‘Belfast on the Move’

BELFAST’S latest bus lane starts on Friday morning.

The northbound lane will be in operation on Great Victoria Street between Hope Street and Grosvenor Road.

It’s the latest phase of the Road Service’s ‘Belfast on the Move’ project.

Roadworks are ongoing in the city with localised lane restrictions on Great Victoria Street, College Square East, Fisherwick Place, Wellington Place and Donegall Square East.

Bus lanes throughout the city centre will be highlighted with red surfacing over the coming weeks.

Roads Minister Danny Kennedy said: “As further resurfacing works are completed in the area, amended road markings will be laid.

“I would remind motorists to be aware of the new traffic management arrangements as they come into operation and to pay extra care and attention as they become used to them.”

The ‘Belfast on the Move’ initiative caused traffic chaos last September, when the first of the new bus lanes were unveiled.

Traffic came to a standstill throughout the city, leaving commuters angry that public transport has been given priority.
