Detectives quizz man over west Belfast murder bid on police officers

A 26-year-old man is being quizzed over the attempted murder of three PSNI officers in Dunmurry on Thursday.

Dissident republicans are being blamed for trying to ambush police officers.

The officers were responding to a report of a burglary in the Foxes Glen area when the attack happened at around 1pm on Thursday.

As they got out of their car, up to six shots were heard.

Witnesses say the officers dived for cover and crawled on the ground until they reached their own vehicle.

The female police officer and her two male colleagues were left badly shaken.

Police believe the original burglary report was false, and may have been an attempt to lure officers into the area.

A man was arrested in Belfast on Thursday night and was brought to Antrim Serious Crime Suite .

Police also carried out searches in the Greater Belfast area.

Detectives continue to appeal for anyone with any information to come forward.
