NEARLY 13,000 fans from all over the world have snapped up the chance to visit the HBO Game of Thrones Exhibition when it comes to Belfast this weekend.

It is part of a five city tour and starts on Saturday, June 8  and runs until Monay, June 17.

The tickets were released to the general public earlier this month and the exhibition will see fans from Australia, the Philippines and the USA descending on Belfast for the event housed in Titanic Belfast.

Working in partnership with Northern Ireland Screen and Titanic Belfast, the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) said demand for the tickets was overwhelming but there is still some capacity for fans who didn’t manage to get their hands on a ticket.

“HBO’s Game of Thrones is one of the most popular and successful fantasy TV series ever made so once the tickets were released we had fans from all over the world snapping up the chance to visit the exhibition in Belfast,” said NITB’s Culture and Arts Officer Helen Carey.

“Fan shouldn’t worry if they didn’t manage to get an allocated ticket and timeslot to the exhibition as there is capacity for people to attend the event. However, there may be queues on the day as we are trying to cater for as many people as possible,” she added.

The exhibition is designed to transport viewers into the breathtaking and enchanted world of Westeros, a fictional continent within the show, and will feature over 70 original artefacts including props and costumes as well as interactive elements.

Richard Williams, CEO, Northern Ireland Screen said, “The Game of Thrones’ global success is phenomenal and we are delighted that HBO is returning to film Season four in Northern Ireland; the first three series having showcased many of our stunning locations, and we are particularly pleased that fans from far and wide will be visiting Northern Ireland and immersing themselves in this fantastic exhibition.”

Titanic Belfast’s CEO Tim Husbands, said: “Titanic Belfast is delighted to be hosting the Game of Thrones exhibition and to be giving fans this fantastic opportunity to learn more about the popular TV series and see a wide range of costumes and props from the show in person.”

The exhibition will focus on key characters from five of the noble houses (Stark, Lannister, Targaryen, Baratheon and Greyjoy) and displays will include;

Costumes, props, armour and weapons – artisans, whose superb craftsmanship has provided authenticity to the medieval world of the show, worked closely with HBO to curate the exhibit with items including: an impressive costume display overseen by the show’s head costume designer Michele Clapton who dressed the mannequins to ensure accuracy in the presentation of the extraordinarily detailed garments, iconic artefacts such as model dragons, weaponry (King Joffrey’s crossbow, daggers and swords), armour (helmets, shields and full suits of armour worn by key characters in the show), crowns, jewellery, books and much more.
