SOUTH Belfast Ulster Unionist MLA Michael McGimpsey has urged Education  Minister John O’Dowd to keep open Newtownbreda High School.

Mr McGimpsey made the plea during a meeting with the Minister on Tuesday afternoon.

“I met with the Education Minister regarding the proposed closure and amalgamation of Newtownbreda and Knockbreda High Schools.

“I again stressed to him the need to keep Newtownbreda open to give the young people the stability and continuity required to maximise on their potential.

“This is the feeling of the whole Newtownbreda school family and their voices must be heard.”

Mr O’Dowd recently visited the school when a proposal was put to him to combine the two schools on the Newtownbreda High School site through a phased integration.
