Detectives at Ardmore PSNI probe motive behind pipe bomb attack in Newry

DETECTIVES are investigating a motive for a pipe bomb attack.

An explosion was heard in an alleyway in the Chequer Court area in Newry, Co Down between 12.30am and 1am on Sunday.

The PSNI say minor damage was caused to a wooden fence but no-one was injured in the incident.

Police attended the scene after it was reported to them at 5.30pm.

Army technical officers recovered the remains of a device which were taken away for forensic examination.

Detectives have asked anyone who noticed any suspicious behaviour in the Chequer Court area on the evening of Saturday to contact them at Ardmore police station on 0845 600 8000.
