Detectives appeal for information after a man was shot in bog legs in Rathcoole

DETECTIVES are investigating a loyalist paramilitary-style gun attack in Newtownabbey.

A 20-year-old man was shot twice in both legs while out walking in the Rathcoole estate.

He was walking along a pathway in the Ballyronan Park area on Tuesday shortly after 5.30pm when he was approached by a gang of men.

The victim was then shot in the legs.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “The man was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.”

Police are described the attack as “a paramilitary style shooting” and are appealing for information.

Anyone who has information about the gunmen is asked to ring detectives in Newtownabbey on 0845 600 8000.
