PSNI seize £450,000 worth of cannabis in east Belfast

ORGANISED Crime Branch detectives have charged a couple over a massive cannabis haul.

The £450,000 haul was found on Monday by PSNI detectives in a planned raid on a house in Hollycroft Avenue in east Belfast.

As part of a following up operation, PSNI detectives on Tuesday carried out a searches at three addresses in the Donegall Pass, Donegall Road in south Belfast and the Short Strand area of east Belfast.

Here officers found more drugs which they believe was linked to a criminal operation.

Cannabis with an estimated street value of £40,000 was recovered during the searches.

Police also recovered a number of items which were taken away for forensic examination.

The male suspect was arrested on suspicion of drugs trafficking offences in connection with the seizure at Hollycroft Avenue seizure and is currently in custody.

Later, a woman was arrested for the raids.

The PSNI say a 37 year old man and a 39 year old woman have been charged with conspiracy to supply class B controlled drug, converting criminal property, possession of class B controlled drug and possessing class B controlled drug with intent to supply.

They are expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court later this morning, Thursday 27 February.

As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
