A 49-year-old man is due to appear in court this morning charged with attempted murder.

Detectives charged him following the stabbing of a 22-year-old man in Newtownards at the weekend.

Police said a row erupted in Lysander Park in the town shortly before midnight on Saturday.

The 22-year-old man was treated at the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald for a stab wound to his shoulder.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
