HAMMER THUGS HUNTED AFTER WOMAN CARJACKED IN NORTH BELFAST

Police scene armed copDETECTIVES are appealing for information following the report of a hijacking in north Belfast this week.

It happened on the Antrim Road near the junction of Chichester Road on Monday, 19 January.

A police spokesperson said that at around 10.40 pm, officers received a report that as a female was walking towards her black VW Polo car two hooded 19-year-old males ran from the direction of Chichester Road.

One of the males was brandishing a hammer and demanded she hand over the keys to her car.

“The female then attempted to run away from them, but they caught her and grabbed her keys and made off in her car.

The woman was not injured, however she was left very badly shaken.

Detective Constable Conor Sweeney said: “I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact Detectives at Tennent Street on the non-emergency number 101.

“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
