DCI Una Jennings charged a man with murder over traveller family feud

DETECTIVES Investigating the shotgun murder of a man at a teenage traveller wedding last month have charged a second man with murder.

Barnie McGinley was shot outside a church in Newtownbutler, Co Fermanag on 11 February.

The 63-year-old was a member of the travelling community.

Police believe the killing was part of an internal family row known as ‘Joyce’s feud’.

A man in his 20s has been charged with his murder and the attempted murder of Mr McGinley’s son, who was shot and injured during the attack.

A fortnight ago, 46-year-old Patrick ‘Toucher’ McGinley,  a nephew of Mr McGinley, was charged with the murder and remanded in custody.

The man in his 20s is due to appear at Omagh Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Saturday, March 6..

Det Ch Insp Una Jennings said: “Our thoughts and sympathy continue to remain with the McGinley family at this time.”
