MAN ARRESTED OVER PARAMILITARY SHOOTINGS IN NORTH BELFAST

Antrim serious crime suiteDETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Terrorist Investigation Unit have arrested a 40-year-old man in Belfast over paramilitary shootings.

The 40-year-old was detained on Tuesday morning under section 41 of the Terrorism Act.

He was arrested as part of a protracted investigation into dissident republican ‘punishment’ shootings.

Police say that a property was searched in the New Lodge area of Belfast as part of the probe.

The suspect is currently being questioned at the serious crime suite at Antrim police station.

He can be held for up to 48 hours before he is either released or charge.

Detectives can also apply to a court for an extension to his detention.
