WOMAN RESCUED FROM HOUSE BLAZE

fire manUP to 30 firefighters were involved in dealing with a serious house blaze.

Fire crews rescued a woman from a burning house at Woodcroft Brae in Ballymena.

Firefighters using breathing apparatus entered the house around 6.30 pm yesterday eveningĀ and found the woman in a smoke-filled, downstairs room.

NIFRS’s Archie McKay said it is believed the woman was unconscious when she was rescued.

The woman was first taken to Antrim Area Hospital before being transferred to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry.

Her condition is not know.

Police are currently investigating how the fire started.

Crews were called in from Ballymena, Antrim and Kilrea and two water jets were required to bring the fire under control.

Mr McKay said extra resources had been brought in because of reports that there may have been children in the house, but none were present.

He said there was a “well-developed” blaze on the ground floor when crews arrived at the scene.

No damaged was caused to any nearby properties.
