The 300,000 herbal cannabis haul seized by police in Newtownabbey

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Reactive and Organised Crime Branch are continuing to question a man over the seizure of an estimated £300,000 worth of herbal cannabis in Newtownabbey.

The drugs were found during a search of commercial premises on Wednesday.

A 30 year old man was arrested and taken to Musgrave PSNI station.

He remains in custody being quizzed under the 1971 Misuse of Drugs Act for possessing the drugs and having them with intent to supply and conspiracy to supply.

Detective Inspector Sean Taylor said: “Officers have also searched properties in Randalstown and Ballymena and our enquiries are continuing.

“This is the latest in a series of unrelated drugs seizures this week which brings to total value recovered since Monday to more than £1 million.

“We are aware of the threat posed by illegal drugs and are determined to use every opportunity to take these substances off the streets and bring anyone involved in their sale, supply or distribution before the courts.”
